A new take on a classic

A new take on a classic

In 2017, I released my third washi tape design—a collage made from bits and pieces of my favorite ephemera papers. Fast forward eight years, and this tape is still my best seller! If you’ve ever shopped for washi tapes in my store, you’ll probably recognize it.

For years, it was a struggle to get this particular tape printed with the right color tones at various manufacturers. Brown, as it turns out, is a surprisingly tricky color to print. Sometimes it would come out too yellow, other times much too red—but always unsellable. I should also add that I'm excessively picky about color consistency in my products, which only made matters worse. Because of these never-ending issues with the printing process, I eventually gave up on designing tapes with multiple shades of brown and instead focused more on single-color tapes, especially the always-popular monochrome ones. It wasn’t until 2023 that I decided to give the brown-toned ones another shot.

The inspiration for the new design came from an old Canadian fishing license in my collection, which includes a page about how to help prevent forest fires. Living in California, I hardly need to explain why that message is so very important to me—especially now, after witnessing the devastating fires in Los Angeles earlier this year. Even though this tape doesn't sell much, it’s still one of my personal favorites—so versatile and just plain gorgeous!

Now, here we are in 2025, and I’m launching my 142nd through 152nd tape designs—whew! I can barely believe those numbers. These new designs are full of vintage charm, warmth, and elegance. And most importantly? My amazing manufacturer nailed the colors! Be sure to check out the new Ephemera pair: 'Floral Ephemera' and 'Stained Ephemera' tapes shown at the top of this post. This is also the first time I'm releasing tapes with backing paper, which makes it easier to work with these wide tapes. All tapes are now available in the shop. ♥
